Kenzi
Teal, how can we ever thank you for doing what you do, and saving this wonderful dog? I can only imagine what a time commitment it is to run your organization with the care and integrity that you obviously do. For one, you have chosen and surrounded yourself with amazing volunteers and foster parents.
Before finding you we contacted a couple of other rescue agencies, and though well intentioned I'm sure, we found poor communication and poor follow through made us hesitant to make an adoption commitment. Your organization was an entirely different beast.
The first person from GK to contact us was Kitty who got back to us first thing on Monday morning after we filled out an application Sunday evening. It may have been first thing, but she had ALREADY contacted both our current and past vets. She spent a lot of time with us and very delicately asked many a question trying to discern if Kenzi would be provided a good home. Within a day she had contacted our reference and set us up for a home visit.
Stage 2 steps in Kelley who probably within minutes of getting the paperwork on Kenzi called me and we must have been on the phone for nearly an hour. Not only did Kelley bring Kenzi in to her home for 5 days, she kept this adoption alive every minute of the 5 days she had Kenzi. I'm sure she got about as much work as I got done that week which wasn't much because the flowing e-mails and pictures and updates came in nearly hourly. And, she didn't sugar coat everything. She was perfectly honest about Kenzi's behaviors, the good ones and the ones that needed some repair. She and Kenzi created a fierce bond in those 5 days, and because of this Kenzi was able to make a safe and rapid transition to bonding with her new moms. I will be forever grateful to Kelley for doing that for Kenzi and for us. That kind of love and dedication one doesn't see every day. So, kudos to you for picking a great team of people who all share the same goal.
Okay, so now comes the more than you want to know part. Kenzi has been here one week as of 5:00 today, and she has rapidly transitioned and integrated into this family. Her and I are like glue, as I am the one who mostly works from home, who does most of the walking, and the errands (she LOVES to accompany me on all manner of errands). She is a very smart gal and has figured out many things about the rhythm of the household just by observing.
Kismet
Hi Teal I was hoping you could add our success story to your website. Thanks.
Kismet--We adopted Kismet (now named Oski) in February 2011. He was about three months old, already house-trained and crate-trained, and knew a few commands. The foster mom had described him as an old soul. She was right! He is perfect. Everywhere we go people comment about how mellow he is for a young lab. He is sweet, smart, fun, and loyal. The picture doesn't do him justice but he is beautiful. We adore him and are so grateful he came into our lives. We had never had a dog before but now are "dog" people. Thank you!
