Bianca
Bianca, now Bella had a rough go of it early on, but now that her injured leg has been removed she is doing well and will soon have a GKR foster sister! Thanks Kelley!!
Maggie
My husband and I had recently lost our beloved dog after 15 years of wonderful life with her. We were devastated even though we knew she had had a wonderful life. By chance I saw Good Karma Rescue on facebook on a friends posting. We had not planned on looking for a new rescue pup for a while as we thought we needed to grieve the loss of Whitney a while longer. But once I went to the Good Karma site I fell in love with Brandy (Maggie on the Good Karma Site). So I quickly filled out the application and submitted it, hoping we would be considered before she was gone. We were contacted immediately and a home visit was scheduled within days. The home visit went very well and the person who interviewed us was so compassionate understanding our recent loss, we actually shared a few tears. We passed with flying colors. Even though we both work full time Good Karma knew we were loving pet owners and our dog would be well loved and cared for. Initially Brandy had been spoken by someone else, but later in the week we received a call that they had changed their mind (silly people). I was able to meet Brandy at her foster home and I fell in love with her. Being able to meet potential adoptions in a foster home is the only way. They dog has not been cooped up in a kennel and you can see first hand how they get along with other dogs and people. Brandy's foster mom was wonderful, she did not rush me in my visit and spent plenty of time with all my questions and stories. I still communicate regularly with Brandy's foster mom as she loves hearing about Brandy's new life with us. Good Karma is the only way to adopt a rescue pet. They screen the dogs for health and behavioral issues and place them in loving foster homes. After 4 months we are still amazed by Brandy and feel so lucky to have found her. She is has brought happiness to our house again and everyone who meets her is amazed at how well behaved she is. Brandy is estimated to be 2 years old, she is completely trained and extremely smart. Puppies are wonderful, but adopting a dog who is housebroken and has manners is even better, especially if you don't have young children at home to help in the raising of a puppy. I make sure I tell everyone about Good Karma Rescue, it is the only place to adopt a pet.
Thank you for believing in us and letting us adopt her.
Apache
Hi Teal & Alyssa,
Just wanted to share some good news with you. With the winter months settling in and us getting into a real routine around the house, Apache has finally come out of her shell. I loved her on first site, but with her real personality finally emerging she is even better. Just in the past two weeks, she has begun "talking" to me like the husky will. When she wants the chair I'm sitting in for herself, wants a cookie, or is just happy & excited, she tells me with her voice. She has finally begun barking outside at things she heas or sees but that is still really rare. She is silent for the most part outside. She tries to cuddle with me more, actually initiating the interaction, rather than me cuddling with her. I don't think she was ever really cuddled with. She doesn't seem to know what to do with her legs (always pushing against me) or her bum. Her head cuddles but the rest of her was on guard. She is finally learning what to do, and last week actually allowed herself to fall backwards, all four legs in the air, onto me on the bed, and stayed in that position while I was petting her. This I really appreciated and absolutely loved!!!! She always loved belly rubs but never allowed her whole body to just relax and fall backwards.
Just thought you'd like to hear about this development. I was absolutely ok with her being guarded as she did play a lot and give lots and lots of love, but it was obvious she was holding back or just didn't know any different. I'm expecting from this point on it will just keep getting better and better. I keep her with me or the kids 24/7 (I work evenings so they stay with her when I work) as she does have significant seperation anxiety. She never barks or cries, just eats things. Like, my bed pillows.
I'm adding some pictures for you, one is of the husky at my daughters that is her boyfriend. Although they are both fixed, the are "together", as well as Sultan, but he's more like a brother to her.
Thank you again for this wonderful girl and Happy New Year to you both!!!
